Ford Uses Mustang Title for New Electric Vehicle, Hopes to Tackle Tesla

Ford Motor will tag its new electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) with the Mustang name, the automaker stated Thursday, seeking to entice clients into a brand new era by linking it to the model whose groundbreaking design in the Sixties combined sportiness and affordability.

Ford confirmed its new electric SUV would probably be called the Mustang Mach-E ahead of a debut event scheduled for Los Angeles on Sunday. Until now, the Mustang title has been used only on a line of sports coupes related to Detroit’s Sixties muscle car era.

Customers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe can begin to order the electric automobiles on November 17, Ford said.

While Mustang coupes are manufactured in Michigan, the Mach E will be built at a manufacturing unit in Cuatitlan, Mexico.

The Mach E is the first of a dozen all-electric vehicles the firm plans to launch by 2022 with an investment of $11.5 billion as it shifts away from conventional gasoline-powered automobiles.

EV market chief Tesla has used speed and power to sell its automobiles, including upgradeable software and massive display screens.

Utilizing the Mustang name signals that Ford plans to do the same, abandoning the prior strategy of positioning EVs as practical, “green” automobiles.

Competitors for electric automobile customers will intensify over the subsequent several years as more mainstream auto manufacturers launch electric models, and Tesla expands into new market sections.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has mentioned he will reveal a high-efficiency electric pickup truck at a Los Angeles event on November 21.
